Caring For Your Jewellery

Every piece of Pixie Silver jewellery is made from sterling silver, including all chains, earring posts, hoops and clasps. Sterling silver is a high quality metal alloy made of 92.5% fine silver with small traces of copper and other metals which increases its durability, making it better suited for everyday wear.

When taken care of, sterling silver jewellery can last a lifetime! It's also hypoallergenic, making it the perfect choice for those with sensitive skin.

Like most metals, sterling silver will tarnish over time, this happens naturally as the jewellery interacts with its environment, and this process is accelerated by exposure to water, perspiration and chemicals. To keep your jewellery looking as shiny as the day it arrived, avoid wearing it in the shower or while swimming, try to limit contact with chemicals like make-up and sun cream, and where possible store it in a cool, dry place.

Jewellery that features sea-glass set in a closed bezel requires a little extra caution; if chemicals or salt manage to get underneath the sea-glass it can cause black tarnish on the silver where it has become trapped. This can be avoided by following the above guidelines.

If your jewellery is looking a little dull, it can be easily revived with a little TLC. Tarnish can be removed by gently polishing it with a soft cloth or some warm, soapy water, which will bring the shine right back again! Alternatively, you can purchase a small silver polishing cloth, which will also do the trick.

I leave the sea-glass in its natural 'frosted' state, but if you'd like to give it a shinier appearance, this can be achieved by dabbing a tiny amount of baby oil or coconut oil onto the glass, which will enhance its natural colour and give it that 'fresh out of the sea' look.
